The Plymouth Gran Fury reappeared in 1980 and was selected for the Minnesota State Patrol fleet. Just a few dollars lower priced than the Dodge St. Regis, the two cars were nearly identical. For 1980, MSP purchased half the cars with a 318 CID V-8 with California Emissions Package and half with the more powerful 360 CID V-8, all for a bid price.

The Dodge Diplomat and Plymouth Gran Fury did very well as police cars in the 1980's, with price being their strongest selling point. The Diplomat / Gran Fury were smaller than the Chevy and Ford competition, but had better performance than the Ford up to 1989 and performance better than the Chevy up to 1983, and close performance after that.

This 1983 model is said to have just 9,949 miles from new and remain in excellent condition. There's no way this wasn't owned by someone's grandmother at some point.
